Why Do We Use Green Lights Instead of Other Colors?

Green light works incredibly well in the water.
Not all colors of light travel through water equally. Green light penetrates water more effectively than other colors, allowing us to illuminate a larger area beneath and around our kayaks. This helps illuminate the underwater world around our kayaks while creating the best possible viewing experience for our guests.
But that's not the only reason we use green lights.
Science is on Team Green too. Green light wavelengths can be seen better by fish, which makes them more attracted to this particular color. We've found that green provides the perfect balance of visibility, wildlife viewing, and overall experience. It allows us to see more of the underwater world while maintaining the peaceful atmosphere that makes nighttime kayaking so unique.
So if you look down and see that green glow beneath your kayak, you'll know there's a reason behind it. It's not just about the color- it's about creating the best possible window into the world beneath the surface.
Of course, this doesn't mean every tour turns into a frenzy, and wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Nature is always unpredictable, which is part of what makes each trip unique. But the green lights do help create conditions that can increase marine activity and give us a better chance of observing sealife.
So when you come visit us, remember it’s more than just green lights. It's science working to give you the best possible chance to catch a glimpse of our amazing local wildlife.
